CASEWORKER – Staying Home Leaving Violence (SHLV)

South West Sydney Legal Centre is a not-for-profit organisation, delivering innovative, multi-disciplinary and diverse strategies aimed towards facilitating access to justice in our local communities.

We are seeking a caseworker to join our Staying Home Leaving Violence (SHLV) team.

 

SHLV aims to prevent homelessness and minimise risks to women and children affected by domestic violence by assisting women and children remain safely in their own homes, without the perpetrator of violence.

 

Applicants should be able to demonstrate minimum 2 years experience case managing women and children affected by domestic violence and have a commitment to empowering women and children.

This position is open to female applicants only. SWSLC considers being a woman is a genuine occupational qualification for this position under s. 31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

 

The successful applicants must be willing to undertake Working with Children Criminal Record checks.  Applicants should hold a current NSW driver’s licence. Proficiency in a language other than English is desirable.

 Hearing Support Worker

South West Sydney Legal Centre is a not-for-profit organisation, delivering innovative, multi-disciplinary and diverse strategies aimed towards facilitating access to justice in our local communities. We are seeking a hearing support worker to join our team.

 

The Hearing Support Worker will be part of a research project, which aims to determine whether providing support/advocacy at court for apprehended domestic violence order (ADVO) hearings for female victims impacts upon hearing outcomes.

 

The successful applicant will work closely with police, prosecutors and local court personnel to advocate for women and to ensure the best and most appropriate outcomes are achieved.

 

Applicant should have a commitment to empowering women and children affected by domestic and family violence, and have demonstrate experience working in local courts and an understanding of the ADVO process.

South West Sydney Legal Centre is an NGO funded by the State and Federal Governments to deliver legal and quasi-legal services to the disadvantaged in the Liverpool, Fairfield and Bankstown Local Government areas. We are known for our proactive and energetic approach to service delivery and community engagement initiatives. This is more than nuts and bolts law. The position opens the opportunity for rewarding and constructive community interaction.

We are searching for a proficient, self-motivated, dynamic and well-organised solicitor with demonstrated minimum 3 years civil litigation & criminal law casework and related local court advocacy experience. Your advanced experience with traffic offence matters will be particularly valued. Your excellent and flexible interpersonal and communication skills will be utilised to engage with clients from a very broad cultural background.

You must hold a current NSW Law Society Practicing Certificate, driver licence with ability to use your own vehicle (travel reimbursement applies) and ideally be in a position to commence employment on or before 16 March 2015. Proficiency in a second language is very desirable.
